Commissions

Why Commission me?

Specialising in classic portraits, I create oil-paintings on board that capture the spirit and personality of your faithful friend, blending the elegance of traditional art with a contemporary understanding of colour and brushstroke. From the gleam in their eyes to the texture of their fur, I pay special attention to those details which make that personality shine through. Going beyond the typical tight realism of traditional portraiture, I prefer to flesh out the facts, not with microscopic wrinkles and whiskers but with soulfulness and a flow and rhythm (which comes from painting flowers) and those additional details such as that clifftop or beaten track where you and your dog roam free, or that beanbag/spot by the aga where he dries his paws, but such extras, are of course, up to you.

The process

Once you've registered your interest via the contact form below, I will work closely with you to create a unique custom piece that will hopefully be cherished for years to come. Whether that means travelling to you to meet my subject in the flesh or working from photographs and chatting over the phone, I always endeavour to ensure the process is as enjoyable, thorough and professional as the final result.

Prices

Below are some typical sizes, (portrait, square or landscape) together with their prices:

Small:              16 x 12"  |  16 x 16"                                         = £450

Standard:         18 x 22"  |  18 x 18"   |  20 x 20"  |  22 x 22"   =  £495

Large:              20 x 24"  |  24 x 24"                                        =  £565

These prices are quoted for a single subject with a surcharge of 15% applicable for any/each additional dog. If long distance travel is required, petrol charges may be factored in. Portraits, on average, take up to two weeks to complete but a few days drying time may need to be factored in on top of that. Your portrait will be finished in a Farrow & Ball blue, charcoal or grey on the back and come signed and carefully packaged.  A 30% deposit is required to book your portrait in with full payment due upon completion, prior to despatch. Framing is your responsibility unless this is something you would like me to arrange. In which case, a separate quote will be provided.

Delivery

If delivery or collection by hand is not an option, I am happy to provide a quote for a courier or send your portrait, guaranteed, insured and tracked by Royal Mail special delivery at a price (size depending) in the region of £20.

Customer Care
I will only consider a portrait complete once you have confirmed your approval of it via emailed photograph and prior to that I will keep you updated of its progress. Portraits take, on average, up to two weeks to complete but you may need to allow for extra drying time. Your completed portrait will be polished off with a Farrow & Ball charcoal, blue or brown backing, signed and carefully packaged. Thereafter, once your final payment has been received in full, I can arrange for safe delivery to you by courier or Royal Mail Special Delivery, the price for which (depending on size) will be in the region of £20 to include tracking and fully insured and guaranteed delivery.

Dominica, your portrait of our little Megan is positively mesmeric. We can't thank you enough                                                                                                                                    Margaret, Norfolk

Such a lovely lady and an incredibly talented artist. Our second painting has arrived today and looking forward to our portrait of Smokey!                                                                                   Joann, Norfolk

It's great thank you so much - a wonderful catching of the moment. My mother will be thrilled. In fact it's so good I'm going to find a few pictures of my divine Wolfie-Dane so you can do one for me!                                                                                                            Belinda, Hampshire

Can thoroughly recommend Dominica. It brought a tear to my eye on Christmas Day when I opened up my beautiful painting of Herbie who we lost a few months ago.     Emma, Suffolk

Just to say how thrilled we are with the portrait of Pepe, the fourth commission you have done of our beloved cats and dogs. Thank you for giving us all such pleasure and happy memories every time we look at one of your portraits. They are such great likenesses and I am sure there will be more to come!                                            Pippa, Suffolk
